Tom Landreth

Tom Landreth's first artistic effort of record is a baby photo he and a young female playmate colorized with mercurochrome at about age two. Fortunately for his many collectors, he turned to watercolor to portray his love for the outdoors.

When he was a student at Georgia Tech, he also attended sketching classes at the old High Museum in Atlanta, his only formal art education. Those sketching classes were a welcome change of pace from architectural drafting and seeded his life-long interest in art.

After years in corporate life, he renewed his interest in painting. To develop his skills, he attended workshops with some of the country's best known watercolor artists. Finally, Tom returned to Georgia in 1981 with his wife, June, to pursue a full-time career in art.

Tom Landreth, American Artist" I see my work moving toward a more impressionistic approach but still consider myself a traditionalist. I draw my subject matter from personal experiences on the stream and in the field, trying to capture a moment in time that has meaning for me. When someone shares that moment through my art, I consider the painting a success."
Fishing
An avid fly fisherman, many of Tom Landreth's paintings portray the fisherman on the stream in some quiet place in the mountains. This is where you will find him on the days he is not in his Wolffork Valley studio ... doing research.
